As a mother of young children, I know that kids can’t stay still for long, and their attention spans are terribly short. So why drag out a photo shoot? Especially when the first shot is often the best anyway.

My theory is that as long as everything is set up before hand, with my "paparazzi-style" of picture taking (3 shots per second) you’ll have beautiful pictures, and happy children, within 20-30 minutes max.
